Currently, CDC is working on a project in Uniontown Pennsylvania, partnering with the National Road Heritage Corridor and Pennsylvania Western University. We have opened a remote lab in Fayette County to process the legacy collection from the National Register of Historic Places listed Gaddis Fort archaeological site (36FA0122). I am Calista Baluch and I am working in the lab as a Laboratory Technician and Intern Coordinator. Five interns from Pennsylvania Western University, California and I are working together to curate the collection so that in the future if anyone were to go back and look at it, it would be easy to understand and learn from. Some of the artifacts we are processing and analyzing are ceramics, glass with intact bottles, porcelain dolls, bones such as cow and duck, a cast iron lid, a doorknob, and various others. We are very appreciative that the Fayette County Historical Society has made a space for curation of this collection at their Haddenville School - and that they are hosting our lab! As we are curating, we will be finding out more about the collection, taking note of all the most interesting items, and letting you know what we learn through posts right here.
